The mother/daughter duo of Birdie Britton and Kerry Corcoran are the featured artists in the Margret and H.A. Rey Center Art Gallery exhibit, “In the Company of Trees,” which debuts on Wednesday, July 4.
Kerry, who grew up in Waterville Valley the daughter of Waterville Valley Resort founder, Tom Corcoran, now resides in Bozeman, Montana. Using trees as a foundation, Kerry prints, paints, draws and collages layers of texture, pattern and calligraphic characters to create writhing, animated pieces that “tilt” a bit off center. Drawn to the imperfection of old, gnarled trees and the history they contain, Corcoran creates richly textural pieces that draw the viewer into a maze of visual narrative.
Kerry’s mom, Birdie, still resides in Waterville Valley and has previously displayed her art at the Rey Center Gallery. For this show, Birdie has created twig sculptures.
Artist’s Reception: Saturday, July 14, 6:30-8:30 p.m. – free and open to the public.
