Become a C.S.I. at Waterville Valley

April 20, 2012

Join the Margret & H.A. Rey Center‘s team of environmental researchers and become a C.S.I. (Citizen Science Investigator) for the environment.

Phenology Watchers
I had to Google “phenology” … a rather officious word … but it sounds pretty cool when you say, “I’m a phenology watcher on a CSI team!”

Phenology Watchers meet every Friday beginning April 27 through June 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn about the role of plant life phases, such as bud-burst and leaf elongation, in understanding the impacts of climate change.  Participate in data collection and learn about the ecology of the northeastern forest. Spend an hour or spend the day!

Pre-register by calling 603-236-3308 or email [email protected]

Water Watchers
Conduct water quality monitoring in Waterville Valley every other Wednesday starting May 9, from 9-11:30 a.m.  New volunteers are welcome to join the program at any time, and no experience is required.  This program is appropriate for adults and youths ages 8+.

Welch Ledges
Learn about the exceptional and delicate plant species that inhabit the higher alpine regions of New Hampshire, but without the effort of a high alpine hike.  Learn about the importance of these environments and their vulnerability to visitor impacts.  Collect data that will help preserve these delicate plant communities.  Research will be done on Welch Ledges on Wednesday, June 6 and June 20.  Contact the Rey Center for details: 603-236-3308 or email [email protected]
