Bobcat Sighting

January 6, 2012

Late last night as I was driving out of Waterville Valley on Rt. 49, I caught a glimpse in the distance of an animal on the side of the road.  I slowed, anticipating a deer or moose ambling into the path of my car.  Instead, my headlights illuminated a smaller animal with a thick coat of grayish fur and a short tail, as it bolted across the road.

My husband excitedly exclaimed that it was a bobcat – our first sighting of the elusive wildcat.

This morning I Googled bocats and found this bobcat photo gallery on a website “Understanding Bobcats in the Granite State.”

Yup…the photos confirm my husband’s ID.  We definitely saw a bobcat last night.  What a beautiful animal!

You can find the photo – below – in the bobcat photo gallery.  This is exactly what the bobcat looked like that ran in front of our car last night.
