If you’ve read my blog over the years, you would have noticed that with every season I excitedly exclaim, “(fill in the blank with winter, spring, summer or fall) is my favorite time of year!”
It’s taken me many years to realize that I don’t have a favorite season, per se; it’s the change that I love so much … the transition from one season to another. I feel exceptionally blessed to live in a region that has four distinct seasons. Just as I’m feeling the winter blues set in, the sun shines, the temperature rises and I catch a glimpse of a daffodil bursting through the snow.
On Monday I celebrated three firsts for 2012. I opened the slider to our deck, cleaned off the Weber and grilled a steak, and survived an entire day and night without lighting a fire in the wood stove (and the temperature in our house never dipped below 68 degrees – hallelujah)!
Although it was overcast for most of Tuesday, my husband couldn’t wait to tell me that he’d seen a Bluebird. And today I saw a Robin in our front yard and a Blue Jay flew into a tree next to my office.
I just had to share my 2012 firsts on my Facebook page. My friend Patricia from California replied by posting, “Y’all New Hamshirites really know how to party it up! he hee.”
Well, Patricia, as Robin Williams once said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!'”
