Gigi’s Nordic Report

January 7, 2018

Nordic Silver Streak, Gigi Estes, reports on their gathering and cross country ski on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

“Today was a ten” one Nordic kept saying, “it was fabulous.”  She was right. After the cold spell, the temperature had risen to 11°F when we met at the Nordic Center, where a blazing fire greeted us. Two Nordics stayed at the South End for snowshoeing and gentle skiing, seven headed to the North End. Conditions couldn’t have been better. The trails had a good packed powder base, topped by an inch of fresh snow overnight. The sun shone brightly and there was not the slightest breeze. We skied Lower Osceola and Moose Run, perfect. Most of us were overdressed, we were such hot stuff! Today the brooks were tucked in under a blanket of snow. We could hear only faint gurgling as we skied over bridges. The sky was blue with a few fluffy clouds in the west and cirrus clouds, forecasters of storms, in the east. One more Nordic joined us for lunch, we enjoyed our usual coffee and pastries.

Doesn’t Gigi’s report sound delightful?  If you’d like to join Gigi and the other enthusiastic members of the Nordic Silver Streaks – Waterville Valley’s senior skiing club – then check out the link below and/or contact the Nordic Center at 603-236-4666.
