Gigi Estes, head Nordic Silver Streak, reports on the group’s Friday, March 15 gathering…
“This is better than Bretton Woods,” that was the exclamation as we were cruising down HB Highway. So true, our trails are more undulating, with rises and dips, much more interesting. And what a day! Often our best skiing occurs in March and so it was today. Perfect weather, 29°F, and sunny; perfect snow, packed and freshly groomed. Spring skiing at its best. Seven Nordics met and skied the South End. We were the first ones to ski on the virgin groomed trails. We took Snows Brook, Figure Three and repeated the loop, then returned via HB Highway and Pond Loop back, our faces glowing. At the Nordic Center we had lunch in the back, basking in the sun while watching the old Waterville Valley cross-country ski photos. One more Nordic dropped in while we enjoyed lunch and camaraderie.
Please remember that next Wednesday, March 20, will be our spring special. We will ski the North End and finish at the yurt. Please bring along some finger food to share. You won’t have to carry anything; we will take the food along in a pulk (sled) which we will load at 9:45 a.m. And please wear your old ski clothing.
