Gigi’s Nordic Silver Streaks Report

January 21, 2013

Gigi Estes, head Nordic Silver Streak, wrote this report following skiing last Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013:

Winter Wonderland! The best skiing in two years!  It was snowing steadily, 26°F, when 14 skiers gathered at the Nordic Center where a warm fire in the fireplace greeted us. Thank you, Becky and Ryan. Fran led us in warm-up moves; don’t miss this opportunity and arrive by 9:40 to join in. We drove to the North End. Two inches of fresh snow already covered the trails which had been groomed the previous day. Skiing in the new snow felt like a knife gliding over soft butter. The clinics with Kay were held at the North End as well. Nordics raved about their improvements. Skiers not in the clinics skied either on Livermore Road or Lower Osceola. It snowed softly all morning and the snowflakes touching our faces felt like gentle kisses. One more person joined us in the Nordic Center where the embers in the fire place still glowed. We enjoyed the camaraderie together with lunch. Have you notices the nice new decals on our mugs?

Here are a few general items: To park at the North End you need a USNF parking permit which you may get from the Nordic Center. I place name tags and Silver Streak passes on the table with the sign-in sheets before we ski. And, please, come plenty early for signing in etc. For sticky skis use Swix Glide Wax Cleaner, then Swix F4 wax (Universal easy Glide Wax). Dirty skis will slow you down. The items are available at the Nordic Center. They are a bit pricey but will last a long time. And remember, you receive a 20% discount.
