Have you ever hiked to the summit of West Osceola? Not many people have…and here’s your chance!
Waterville Valley Athletic & Improvement Association (WVAIA) volunteers Dan Newton and Gary Moak will lead a hike up Mt. Osceola and West Osceola on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
Meet at the gazebo in Waterville Valley’s Town Square by 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 7. After assembling, the group will carpool to the trailhead on Tripoli Road where the hike begins. The group will hike the Mt. Osceola Trail 3.2 miles to the ledgy summit of Osceola (4340 ft). From there, hikers will have a choice – remain on Osceola to enjoy the view, conversation with fellow hikers, a quick game of cribbage, or a brief nap – or bushwhack along the ridge approximately 0.3 miles to the trailless West Peak (4114 ft.). From the west summit, the group will retrace their steps, rejoin the revelers of the group on Mt. Osceola, and then hike back down the Mt. Osceola Trail to the trailhead.
The total distance of this moderately challening hike is 6.4 miles to Mount Osceola, and approximately 7 miles round trip to West Osceola.
Pre-registration is not required, but it’s always a good idea to email the hike leaders to let them know to expect you. There is no charge to participate.
Enjoy!
