Having worked in real estate marketing and the travel and tourism industry my whole adult life, I have seen my fair share of businesses proclaiming, “40 years in business,” “Celebrating 10 years of success,” “20th anniversary year!” Heck, at Waterville Valley Realty we even use the tagline, “Connecting buyers and sellers for 45 years.”
Most of the time, I think, “Big deal. What does your anniversary have to do with me?”
So, it is with some hesitation that I share with you my own anniversary announcement. I recently started my seventh year of blogging here on wvnh.com. Yeah, I know. It isn’t a milestone number. It doesn’t end in a zero. I’m not going to be ordering gold anniversary decals to stick on my stationery anytime soon.
So now you’re thinking, “Six years of blogging? So what?”
That’s a lot of keystrokes! Six years of blogging. Two thousand plus posts. Six hundred thousand plus words. Five hundred plus hours of writing time.
OK, forget about the numbers. They’re a little overwhelming (and if my boss reads this he will ask, “Couldn’t you find a better use of your time?!”).
I find myself thinking about all of the fun activities and events that have happened in Waterville Valley over the past six years, the changes in resort ownership and management, the growth of our mountain community, the intriguing and interesting people I’ve met, the beautiful condominiums and homes I’ve been able to visit, the happy and satisfied customers and clients who’ve passed through our doors, and the number of people who have expressed their appreciation for this blog … because it keeps us connected with Waterville Valley. And isn’t that what “community” is really all about? A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
I guess the numbers have some gravitas after all. But, more than the numbers, it’s the relationships that have the greatest meaning and value. How very humbling that you have welcomed me into your lives these past six years.
So … happy anniversary to me. No … make that Happy Anniversary to US! And cheers to many more!
