Gigi Estes, head Nordic Silver Streak, reported on the group’s Wednesday gathering…
Baby, it’s cold outside! 12°F as five of us gathered at the Nordic Center. We bundled up and headed outside. It was sunny; the sky was deep blue with some cirrus clouds streaming across. We hiked past the ice arena toward Snows Brook and then took Lower Fletcher. The trails were covered with ice, glistening in the sun. It felt like walking on a glacier. We had traction for our boots as well as hiking poles and felt safe. We saw small plants covered with rime ice and designs made by the frost. It was beautiful to be outside in this magical world. When we headed back the sun had disappeared behind clouds. We returned to the Nordic Center warmed up, with red cheeks and big, happy smiles. Lunch, goodies and coffee together was fun as always.
Nordics, it is beautiful to be outside together, even if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate. I hope many of you will join us next week.
The Nordic Silver Streaks meet every non-holiday Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Nordic Center in Town Square for 2 hours of Nordic skiing (or walking if Mother Nature hasn’t cooperated!) with professional guides. Participants then enjoy lunch at the Nordic Center with complimentary pastries and coffee. Nordic Silver Streaks members are welcome to participate in all Silver Streaks functions.
