Even though the Silver Streaks program is over for this winter…and even though the Nordic Center is closed for the season…the Nordic Silver Streaks, headed up by Gisela Estes, keep on skiing! The group gathered on Wednesday, April 3. Gisela writes:
“Cold and windy.” That was the forecast, but at the Osceola trail we were protected from the wind and the strong sun warmed us quickly. We were eight Nordics, six skied and two walked using snowshoes and traction. The night had been cold, in the 20s and the snow was hard. The beginning of the trail did not look promising but when we reached the top of the first hill the conditions became quite pleasant. The top layer of snow was just soft enough for the snow to grip. The sky was deep blue with a few white fluffy clouds. We didn’t feel the wind but we could hear it singing and moaning in the tree tops. How I love clouds and wind! We skied to the very top of Upper Osceola. By then the snow had softened a bit and coming down via John Deer was a joy ride! Time allowed for a short detour up Pipeline before returning to Depot Camp. We met at Jugtown for a yummy lunch.
Nordics, the skiing is still so good. Take advantage of it. Unfortunately, Paul and I can’t join you next Wednesday but a group of Nordics is planning to meet again at 10:00 am at Depot Camp to ski and to possibly finish with lunch at the Blue Moon. Go for it!
