End the ski season with a splash at Waterville Valley’s annual Pond Skimming and Last Run Luau on Saturday, Apr. 6. (All right, so it’s NOT really the end of the ski season…Waterville Valley will be open for one more week; but, the Skimming and Luau will go on as scheduled!)
You’ve seen the crazy pictures and videos. This is your chance to try skimming across a 100-foot pool. Even if you don’t make it across the water, you’ll still be a candidate for the Best Wipe Out prize!
Register the day of the event from 9-10 a.m. at the Event Table on the second floor of the Base Lodge. This free event is open to the first 75 skiers and riders to sign-up. The skimming will start at approximately 10:30 a.m. with each competitor taking two runs in the hopes of walking away with a prize and a title, not to mention bragging rights for a whole year. Spice it up with a unique costume and put yourself in the running for the Best Costume prize. Spectators or “Beach Bums” as you will be referred to, are welcome and will be the deciding factor for the Beach Bum Favorite. Secure your spectator spot early, the first 100 spectators to arrive will receive leis. Other prizes will be awarded by style points, longest ride, and mini surfer 12 and under.
Afterwards, head to the Buckets deck for an early après party hosted by Newcastle, or take some end of season runs before heading over to the Last Run Luau in the Courtyard from 2-5 p.m. Bob King and Stas will be going head to head in dueling guitar fashion. Bring a lawn chair. Goggle tans are encouraged.
