The best freeskiers on the continent will descend upon Waterville Valley on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 to compete for $20,000 in cash prizes in The North Face Park & Pipe Open Series.
It was just announced that Nick Martini and Stept Productions will be arriving in the Valley the night before – Friday, Feb. 22 – and will premiere their new movie, “The Eighty Six,” at 7:30 p.m. that night right in Town Square. That’s right. Outdoors under the stars in the Town Square courtyard! Martini and The North Face athlete Devin Logan will have an autograph session at 1829 Outfitters in Town Square.
My daughter, Jenna, attended Holderness School (right down the road from Waterville Valley) with Nick. Check out this excerpt about Nick from Holderness.org:
Originally from Winchester, MA, Nick Martini began skiing at Cannon Mountain, NH. Though he grew up racing and won the J 5 State Championship; once he was exposed to freestyle, he hung up the race skis and headed to the park. His passion for skiing brought him to Colorado where he attends Business School at Colorado University – Boulder in the fall and skis all winter. At just 22 years old, Nick has proven himself as a heavy hitter in the world of freestyle skiing, placing sixth in the Dew Tour Slopestyle at Mt. Snow, fifth in the Dew Tour Rail Jam in Portland and tenth overall for the Dew Tour in 2009. He also received the Alpha Dawg Award as one of the top Dew Tour athletes age 18 or younger. When he’s not competing, Nick is busy skiing in films with Teton Gravity Research and Poor Boyz Productions. Nick ’08 and Alex ’06 run their own Freestyle skiing movie production company, Stept Productions, which has won several national and international movie awards. Cam Reilly ’07 is also a significant contributor to Stept, as a producer, editor and skier. Nick has been hampered by several knee injuries for the last 2 seasons but his sponsors such as North Face, Salomon and Rock Star continue to be major sponsors of Nick and Stept Productions.
