My husband and I spent our first dates on the slopes at Bretton Woods. When kids came along, it was only natural that we’d pack up the family truckster with our tons of gear and hit the trails like all the other weekend warriors. But, there are times when you just want some girlfriend time, ya know? My office used to be located in the admin building at the base of Waterville Valley. At lunch, the girls in the office would pull on our ski boots, step into our skis and hop on the lift for a quick half dozen runs. Talk about an exhilarating break from work! No bundling up kids. No stressed out hubby loading the mini van and corralling the kids. Just me and the girls!
The Boston Globe recently published a story, “The best girlfriend ski getaways in New England.” Guess which ski area is one of the four featured? Uh-huh, our very own Waterville Valley!
“Waterville Valley. This pretty little self-contained pedestrian ski village, nestled in a picturesque, 500-acre valley within the White Mountain National Forest, offers the best of both worlds. There’s skiing on 265 acres, crisscrossed by 60 trails, and some top-notch, on-mountain instruction. But the mini Euro-style hamlet also offers the sanity-saving, relaxation you and your fave friends are craving. Gather the gang in Town Square for selfies, and to browse the village shops, including the Bookmonger, one of the best independent book stores in the state. Consider a twirl around the indoor ice skating rink or a dog sledding excursion. Then, head to your condo for some downtime with the gals.”
Ladies, I strongly suggest you try a girlfriend getaway. It’s good for the soul.
