Brenda’s back on the AT

April 5, 2012

When Waterville Valley resident, Brenda Conklin, turned 60 years old a couple of years ago, she decided to celebrate her birthday by fulfilling a life-long dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Having completed the northern half from Katahdin in Maine to Duncannon, PA, Brenda recently returned to the 2,181-mile AT to resume her trek, starting in Virginia and hiking northward.

Brenda’s husband, Preston, is providing support for the first 14 days of her hike; driving a loaded supply vehicle to designated pick-up spots and ferrying her to a motel each night.  This allows Brenda to hike faster with a lighter day pack.  After 14 days, Preston will return to Waterville Valley and Brenda will continue north with a 40-pound pack and sleeping in a tent.  She’ll resupply with packages mailed by Preston to pre-arranged Post Offices along the way.

Best wishes, Brenda!
