Bruce Saenger

January 16, 2014

It’s with a heavy heart that I write of the passing of Waterville Valley resident and business owner, Bruce Saenger.

Bruce Walter Saenger, 70 of Drake’s Brook Road, Waterville Valley, died January 13, 2014.

Born in Hanover, NH on July 16, 1943, Bruce was the son of Werner and Natalie (Brown) Saenger. He grew up in Cobleskill, NY and Dover, NH. He attended Dover High School and graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelors degree in Political Science. He resided in the Medway and Millis, Massachusetts area for many years. Bruce has been a resident of Waterville Valley since 2004.

Bruce joined the US Army and served as a tank commander.  He went on to teach in the Army ROTC program at the Ogontz campus of Penn State University.

In the early 1970’s, Bruce went to work for the Nationwide Insurance Company and then on to other various companies before starting up and operating his own for many years, The Saenger Organization, in Medway, MA.  Bruce sold his business and began a new business, Saenger Consulting Group, in Waterville Valley.

Throughout his insurance industry career he headed several boards and was certified with the following designations: CLU, RHU, CFP, CPCU, CIC, ChFC and REBC.

Bruce served the town of Waterville Valley as the Town Moderator and the Moderator of the Waterville Valley Elementary School, on the Waterville Valley Zoning Board, Vice-President of the Waterville Valley Resort Association, President of the Moose Run Homeowners Association and enjoyed playing Santa in Waterville Valley Christmas celebrations.  He served on the board of Pemi Baker Community Health.  Bruce was also a member of the Friends of Ogontz/Abington, a Penn State ROTC board of former Penn State ROTC cadets and military science cadre who promote the Army ROTC program and Education Director of the Securities & Insurance Licensing Association (SILA).  As a result of all his volunteerism, Bruce was awarded the Spirit of New Hampshire Volunteer Service Award.

Bruce was predeceased by his daughter, Cheryl Lee Saenger.

Bruce is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Cheryl J. (Bouchard) Saenger of Waterville Valley, sister, Heidi Moran of Somersworth, NH,  daughters, Donna Lynn Prior, of Nashua, NH, Jill Diane Morazzini, of Ashland, MA, five grandchildren, and a niece.

Bruce was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish Saint Matthews Church, in Plymouth and brought communion to many home-bound communicants who could not attend mass.

Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth, on Sunday, Jan. 19th, 12pm to 2pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Holy Trinity Parish St. Matthews Church, School St., Plymouth, on Monday at 11am. Spring Burial will be held in the Waterville Valley Cemetery, Waterville Valley.
