Classical Theater Returns to Waterville Valley

July 28, 2019

Shakespeare in the Valley is back for the 14th season offering free/pay-what-you-can performances by professional actors on an outdoor stage in Waterville Valley.

The season opens on Saturday, August 10, at 2:30 p.m. with the free matinee series, Sugar-Coated Shakespeare. Two person teams of actors play over 20 different characters in an interactive candy-coated learning experience featuring Shakespeare and other classics. Sugar-Coated Shakespeare performances are under the tent in the center of Town Square on three consecutive Saturdays — August 10, 17 and 24.

Evening performances of original shows created specifically for the Theater Under the Stars, located at the Gazebo Hill Amphitheater (behind the Town Square ice rink), start on Saturday, August 10.

Schedule

Saturday, August 10
“Interactive Best Buddies Bard” — A celebration of love and friendship.

Friday, August 16
“Interactive Buccaneer Bard” — A swashbuckling adventure.

Saturday, August 17
“Interactive No Holds Bard” — An improv sketch comedy show where no two shows are alike.

Friday, August 23
“Interactive No Holds Bard Part Deux”

Saturday, August 24
“The Tempest Experiment” — An interactive mixed media art experience created in the theater’s innovative new Creative Adventurer’s Club Lab.

All evening main stage shows are “pay-what-you-can” (suggested minimum donation is $5).  House opens at 6 p.m. for pre-show picnicking and BYO beverage of your choice. Show begins at 6:30 p.m. and lasts 60-75 minutes, with an intermission.

All shows are family friendly, with “first come, first served” general admission seating. If rain, the shows move into the indoor space located behind the clock tower on the second level of Town Square.

So grab a beach chair or blanket, pack a picnic or grab some food at Town Square’s eateries, and head out to see this “lean, mean theater machine”!  NOTE: There are lawn chairs available for rent at the site, with all proceeds going towards youth program scholarships.
