Croquet Season Ends

September 21, 2013

Waterville Valley resort’s 2013 croquet season came to a soggy close.  Read Maureen Fish’s wrap-up, below.

Our 22nd Annual Croquet Tournament on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, made history this year – the first in recent memory to be cancelled due to weather.  But in spite of cancelling the games everyone, dressed in our traditional whites, gathered at the Silver Fox Inn for a fabulous luncheon and the awards presentation.

Since we had no championship game awards to present we took this opportunity to make it our first croquet committee (Diana and Maureen) unanimous awards presentation. For keeping everyone on the up and up and calling all those controversial calls the committee named Cindy and Ed Roberts the unofficial officials! Our perfect attendance award went to Janet and Russ Carlisle for being there every week and keeping the croquet spirit alive! Our most improved player of the year award went to Samir Kassissieh (a former rookie of the year winner).  Watch out for Samir next year!   And our new player of the year award went to Mick Palmiter who just joined us this season.  Great playing Mick!

Thanks to everyone who made this such a successful croquet season.  We had a great turnout this year and look forward to seeing everyone next July.
