Cruising on the M/S Mt. Washington

August 26, 2013

You may recall that August 21 is a national holiday – so proclaimed by my daughter in honor of her own birthday.  Much like royal events, Jenna’s Birthday requires multiple celebrations over a period of days.  This year’s festivities included an afternoon cruise on the M/S Mt. Washington on Thursday.

What a fun afternoon we had!  An assortment of friends and family met on the Weirs Beach boardwalk before boarding the M/S Mt. Washington with coolers full of sandwiches, soft drinks, candy, chips and whoopie pies.  Why so much food, you ask?  I grew up watching Gilligan’s Island and I learned a valuable lesson:  one must be prepared for any and all potential disasters when you head out on a two hour tour!

It turned out that Gilligan wasn’t aboard and the Captain effortlessly guided the 230-foot excursion ship around Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire’s largest lake, dotted with at least 253 islands and covering 72 square miles.

My cousin, Bobby, and his fiance, Denise, joined us for Jenna’s Birthday.  Denise is from Maryland and had never been to the Lakes Region, so a cruise around Winnie would be the perfect sightseeing opportunity for her.  On our ride down to the Weirs, Denise remarked how lucky we are to have the mountains and the lakes within such close proximity.  As frequently happens when we have guests, it takes an out-of-towner like Denise to remind me how blessed we are to live in Waterville Valley.

Here are a couple of pics from our cruise aboard the M/S Mt. Washington.
