Five Summit Challenge

July 17, 2013

Waterville Valley Resort just announced the Denali Challenge:  Summit five Waterville Valley mountains in a single weekend, August 16-18, 2013.

Mount Denali (aka Mt. McKinley) is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20,320 feet above sea level.  During the Denali Challenge in Waterville Valley, participants will hike the equivalent of Denali – 20,000 feet – by summiting the two Osceola peaks, Mt. Tecumseh, and Welch & Dickey mountains.  Everyone who completes the challenge will be awarded the title of “Alive After Five.”

“We hope to attract a number of families as well as avid hikers who are drawn by the beauty of the White Mountain National Forest,” said event chair, Bob Fries. “We will be able to showcase the peaks around Waterville Valley as well as the natural features of the National Forest.”

The weekend will include intense hiking for some, but will also offer gentler hikes for families or those seeking easier challenges, plus games and entertainment.
