From Waterville Valley Trail Running to Boston Marathon

April 18, 2016

A Waterville Valley property owner is running in the Boston Marathon today – her first marathon race!

According to a newspaper story, Julianne Perkins got her start running on Waterville Valley’s hiking and cross country ski trails.

“We have a ski condo in Waterville Valley, N.H., and I began to run over the trails longer and longer distances,” said Perkins. “I met a few other friends up there who also run, so it became a hobby and we have a real community of trail-runners.”

Along with enjoying meeting the people she has doing the trail running, Perkins said she has experienced the same camaraderie in training for the Boston Marathon.

“One of the best parts about training for the marathon, while there’s a huge physical benefit, but I’ve also met some of the nicest people along the way,” added Perkins. “The running community has been extremely supportive and the Celtics organization has also been extremely supportive, which has made training all the more fun.”
