Gigi Estes reported that on Wednesday, March 2, 11 diehard Nordic Silver Streaks assembled at the Waterville Valley Nordic Center for a group photo (below) prior to heading out on the trails.
Estes wrote, “Several of the regulars were missing because of the ski races at the mountain. When we started skiing it had warmed up to 28°F. It was snowing gently and there was no wind. It was magical, a true winter wonderland. After the foot of snow we had last week the trails were groomed to perfection. Thank you, Brice. The falling snow added a layer of beautiful powder and it felt as if we were skiing on butter. It was one of the best days for skiing all season. We did a more challenging loop today, starting out on Snow’s Brook. Then we skied Sloppy Joes, Dry Joes, Drakes Brook and returned via Middle and Lower Fletchers. At the Pond Trail junction most headed back to the Nordic Center. Several Nordics didn’t have enough yet and went to HB Highway before returning. I figure that we skied almost 10km (6 miles) today and the added on loop was another one or two kilometers. As always, we enjoyed being together for lunch, pastries and coffee. A nice surprise was a short visit by Joseph Jung.”
Thanks for your weekly updates, Gigi. You and your fellow Silver Streaks are an inspiration for us to get off our tails and head out onto the trails!
