Gigi’s Nordic Streaks Report

December 16, 2016

Gigi Estes, head Nordic Silver Streak reports on the group’s first ski of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 14…

What a day! Best first day of any Nordic season ever. Twelve Nordics took advantage of the perfect conditions: 33°F, lots of snow, sun and blue sky when we headed out. Five Nordics stayed at the South End, seven drove to the North End to ski Livermore Road and enjoyed the well-groomed trail. It was absolutely gorgeous, the trees laden with snow, sparkling in the sun. Two of our Nordics were a bit behind the rest and they were surprised by three deer, a mama and two fawns, crossing the trail right in front of them. Wow! We stopped at the bridge junction for a photo (below). Sean Snow, a young racer, came by just in time so we all could be in it. As we headed back, a cloud covered the sun and all of a sudden it snowed gently, beautifully; soon to be sunny again. We had worked hard skiing up hill and savored the easy downhill. Back at the Adventure Center for lunch, coffee and pastries we gloried in the experience of this perfect day.

P.S. Just a bit more information: Both the Nordic Season Pass and the Silver Streaks membership can be purchased at the Waterville Valley Adventure Center in Town Square. For friends to join us on a Wednesday, the fee is $12. Skis, boots and poles may be rented for the special fee of $10.
