Guided Bushwhack to Cone Mt. Bluff

September 6, 2012

WVAIA volunteers Dan Newton and Gary Moak will lead a hike/bushwhack to Cone Mountain Bluff on Saturday, Sept. 8.  Meet at the Town Square gazebo by 9 a.m. for a carpool to the Welch-Dickey parking lot in Thornton.

This unique back country excursion begins at the Welch-Dickey trailhead, then goes off-trail into the wilds of Cone Mountain – a short, half-day hike under a tall canopy of hardwoods with big views at the end.  The final quarter of the route is coniferous and a bit steep and rocky, much like the end of Fletcher Cascade Trail…only there is no trail, making it somewhat difficult, but well worth the effort.

Pack a snack and water, and wear sturdy footwear. The group should return to the Valley a little after noon.
