At the October 23, 2018 annual membership meeting of the Waterville Valley Resort Association (WVRA), Matt Hesser was honored with the Bruce Saenger Volunteer of the Year Award. Previous recipient and WVRA Vice President Wendi Rathgeber presented the award to Matt.
Bruce Saenger was very active in the Waterville Valley community and was instrumental in reinvigorating WVRA. He served on the nonprofit organization’s board of directors. Bruce passed away on January 13, 2014. WVRA created the Bruce Saenger Volunteer of the Year Award in his memory and annually presents the award to a WVRA member who exemplifies Bruce’s selfless volunteerism.
Like Bruce, Matt Hesser is very active in the Waterville Valley business community. He and his family moved to the area in 2012 when he accepted the general manager’s position at Black Bear Lodge. In February, 2015, Matt joined the Waterville Valley Ski Resort team as marketing director. From the get-go, Matt has been involved in marketing the entire Waterville Valley business community. He joined the WVRA board of directors in November, 2012. Less than a year later, when WVRA’s long-time president, Bill Cantlin, stepped down, Matt was unanimously elected to lead WVRA as president. In addition to his job with the resort and his very active role in the Resort Association, Matt also serves on the Town of Waterville Valley’s core planning group.
Congratulations to Matt on this well-deserved award.
