“I Do”

July 31, 2013

As the mother of a newly engaged son, I’ve been scouting Waterville Valley wedding venues in hopes that Tyler and his fiance would choose to get married in the Valley.  Alas, their nuptials will be held near her family in Indiana – far from Corcoran Pond, Osceola and Tecumseh.  Someone told me that the mother of the groom is supposed to dress up, show up and shut up!

Enviously, I’ve watched a number of couples tie the knot right here in Waterville Valley – at the Osceola Arbor overlooking the pond and Mt. Osceola, in the gazebo at Town Square, under the tent at the Conference Center, even on top of Snows Mountain.

Despite the beauty of our resort and our excellent function facilities, there were just three weddings held in Waterville Valley in 2011.  With the encouragement and support of the Waterville Valley Resort Association, the Conference Center hired an energetic and fun wedding services manager, Whitney Meister.  Whitney and the entire resort have been doing a terrific job of selling Waterville Valley as a wedding destination.

In 2012, the number of weddings held in Waterville Valley grew to 17.  By the end of 2013, there will have been at least 29 sets of I do’s in the Valley.  Whitney has already booked 26 weddings for 2014 – and that number continues to grow.

Whitney stays in touch with many of the couples that got married in Waterville Valley, and a number of them have been returning to the Valley to celebrate their one year anniversaries.

Whitney shared a couple of the emails she’s received…

Hi Whitney,

Mark and I want to thank you for our anniversary card!  It was so thoughtful and generous of you to give us a gift certificate to The Lantern. We look forward to visiting the Valley to celebrate with it! I can’t believe it has already been a year. Mark and I actually traveled to Waterville Valley over 4th of July weekend to celebrate an early anniversary. Visiting the Valley is always a special trip for us. We visited our ceremony spot and noticed it was set up for a wedding. Watching the guests arrive at the pergola brought back many memories from our special day.

Thank you again for thinking of us! We look forward to staying in the Valley again soon.

Hi Whitney,

I hope you are having a great summer and that wedding season is keeping you plenty busy in the Valley 🙂  We’ll be up in Waterville in a couple of weeks and can’t wait- maybe we’ll run into you!
Thanks, Laura

Madi and Ross recently returned to Waterville Valley for their one year and visited with Whitney.  They were so happy to be back and are expecting their first child!
