It’s not about the hike…

October 8, 2014

The Rey Center summer lecture series, “Trails and Tales from the Wilderness,” concludes on Friday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. with a presentation by Nancy Sporborg and Pat Piper, “It’s Not About the Hike.”

According to Sporborg and Piper, we all have our own mountains to climb. Your mountain could be a 4,000-footer in the White Mountains.  Someone else’s mountain may be going to college, getting a job, bringing up children, caring for aging parents or dealing with an illness.

This program will highlight the journey of two 50+-year-old non-hikers – Sporborg and Piper – who one day decided to climb the 100 highest mountains in New England.  They are ordinary women who went on an extraordinary journey over mountain summits and within their own hearts.

This presentation is for everyone – hikers and non-hikers, people who are sedentary or active, outdoor enthusiasts and indoor homebodies, 10-year-olds and 90-year-olds, and everyone in between.

The presentation is NOT about the hike.  It is an inspirational and motivational program about pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones, overcoming our fears, finding our passions and living our lives to the fullest.  Sporborg and Piper will present a multimedia presentation including movies, music and photographs. It is both humorous and touching, as the speakers share their personal lives in a way that makes the message and learning universal.

The book, “It’s Not About the Hike,” will be available to purchase after the presentation. The 360 page book contains over 245 color pictures and 60 inspirational hike reports and costs $35.  If you enjoy the presentation, you will love the book!

This program is generously sponsored by Town Square Condos.
