“Leadfoot” Brenda Checks in from the AT

April 24, 2012

Waterville Valley resident Brenda Conklin is back on the Appalachian Trail.  She checked in with the following update…

We decided to start early to beat the heat and summer crowds. From April 8-20 I covered 188 miles through southern PA, MD, WV, and northern VA. Only 400 more AT miles to go in VA. At the Appalachian Trail Conservancy headquarters in Harpers Ferry, WV, I was the 25th person to register for 2012 (19 section hikers and 6 thru-hikers from GA). Preston is continuing his trail pickup and delivery service allowing me to day-hike, which results in more miles (light pack), better sleep, better food, and better sightseeing. Side trips included the Air & Space Museum at Dulles Airport, Luray Caverns, and the radio telescope in Green Bank, WV. The weather has been perfect.  Only one rainy day. The bright colors of spring flowers in the woods have been inspirational. – Leadfoot
