Waterville Valley Resort CEO Chris Sununu announced the promotion of Tim Smith to the position of General Manager effective May 2, 2015. Prior to Smith’s promotion, Sununu fulfilled both the CEO and GM roles. After Smith takes the GM reins, Sununu will continue to oversee expansion and future development of the resort as well as resort strategies and operations.
“My role as General Manager required 100% of my efforts to be focused on the day-to-day aspects of the resort,” said CEO Chris Sununu. “We were very successful over the past two years re-establishing a positive team atmosphere and have clarified the philosophical direction we want to take the resort. The long term plans for Waterville Valley go well beyond where the resort is today. I am excited to get back to refocusing my efforts on the role as the Chief Executive Officer and turning those expansion plans into a reality.”
A 20-year veteran of the ski industry, Tim Smith was hired as Director of Mountain Operations in 2014. He holds both Bachelor’s and Associate’s degrees in Ski Area Management from Northern Michigan University and Gogebic Community College respectively. Tim’s career has spanned resorts on the East Coast, Midwest, and Rocky Mountains. Before being hired at Waterville Valley Resort, Tim was the Operations Manager at Crotched Mountain where he oversaw all mountain and base operations and earned a distinguished place on SAM Magazine’s Top Ten Under Thirty.
“It’s exciting to be named General Manager at a place like Waterville Valley Resort,” said Tim. “Chris is a great leader and it’s an honor to have the faith of both him and the Board of Directors to take on this responsibility. I’ve long been in awe of the history of Waterville Valley and I look forward to maintaining its traditions while moving it forward into its very prosperous future.”
“Tim has proven himself as an innovative team leader who stops at nothing when it comes to getting the job done,” Sununu said of Smith. “His optimism and positive attitude is contagious with both the staff and our guests. He understands that above all else we are in the business of selling a great family experience. I know he will do a fantastic job in his new role.”
