Pond Skimming, Last Run Luau

March 31, 2015

Pond skimming.  It’s an annual rite of passage as we transition from ski season to mud season … an opportunity to wear the most ridiculous outfit you can imagine … a time to don your fattest skis … the chance to wow a crowd of beach bums – either with an amazing skim across an ice cold body of water, or with an epic fail.  Keep this advice in mind:  if you’re going into the drink (literally), go in style!  If the audience goes nuts, you can go home a winner.

Waterville Valley will host the big aloha to ski season on Saturday, April 4, with the Last Run Luau and Pond Skimming.

Pond skimming registration is open to the first 75 brave souls to sign-up at the ski area base lodge between 8 and 10 a.m. on April 4.  Pond skimming is FREE with a valid lift ticket or season pass.

Head to the World Cup trail and commence skimming at 12:15 p.m.

Spectators, aka ‘beach bums’, are welcome to take part in cheering and jeering on the competitors as they splash their way across the 100 foot icy pond.

An awards ceremony will be held during the Last Run Luau on Buckets deck starting at 2:30 p.m.  There will be prizes for the longest run for skiers and riders (21+ and 20 & under divisions), beach bum favorite, surfer style, best wipe out, and best costume.  There will be cool giveaways and $4 beer specials for skimmers and non-skimmers alike.
