For the second year in a row, Waterville Valley Realty has been a proud sponsor of the Cold Turkey Plunge to benefit the Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports program. We were discussing the fun fundraising event at dinner a while back. My daughter, Jenna, enthusiastically announced that she’d love to take a dip in icy Corcoran Pond to raise funds for WVAS.
We woke this morning – the day of the Plunge – to find beautiful bluebird skies and the temperature outside a freezing 20 degrees.
“I’m not sure this is such a good idea,” Jenna said as we hopped in the car to drive into the Valley. No one spoke during our 10 minute ride. Jenna had her game face on…furrowed brows, lips pursed, staring out the car window.
We parked at Town Square. Jenna’s Sherpa (her father, Harry) grabbed the support bag with towels, blanket, boots, extra clothes, warming stones and tissues and made our way to Corcoran Pond Beach.
We were met by all kinds of crazy folks waiting to take the Plunge!
Jenna and her friend, Jim – and a whole lot of other brave souls – survived the Plunge. We even hung around and socialized for a while. Until Jenna’s shivering threatened to cause a mild earthquake.
We’re home now. Jenna has had a hot shower. She’s sitting on the couch with her dog, Willow. I asked if I could get her anything to eat for lunch. “A bowl of ice cream,” she answered. Seriously. She’s cocooned in a blanket eating a big bowl of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream.
