Spooktacular October in Waterville Valley

September 27, 2013

There are some spooky activities brewing in the Waterville Valley Region this October thanks to the arrival of the new Valley Witch Festival.

During the month of October, witches and warlocks will sweep down Route 49 through Campton, Thornton and Waterville Valley for a witch tour.  Local community members and businesses will display custom, handmade witches at designated businesses in the three communities along Route 49.  Stop by Community Guaranty Savings Bank, King Realty, Mad River Coffee House, Moriarty Property Management Services, Mad River Tavern, Woodpeckers, and the Visitor Information Center to tour the display of witches and cast your vote for the best witch in town!

The final spooktacular will take place on October 25 & 26 in Waterville Valley.  Weekend festivities include dancing with the Lakes Region Big Band at a Masquerade Ball, gazing into the future at the Mystical Extravaganza, being entranced under a hypnotic spell at the Legendary Brewgala with comedic hypnotist Frank Santos, and children’s activities at the Waterville Valley Recreation Department.

The weekend kicks off with a Haunted Fun Night Out on Friday, October 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Waterville Valley Recreation Department. Kids ages 6+ will enjoy a pizza party, gym games, pumpkin carving and decorating and more. Admission is $30 per child ($20 per child of a Waterville Valley property owner). Pre-registration is required by calling 603-236-4695.

On Friday night, grown-ups are invited to attend a Masquerade Ball from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Waterville Valley Conference Center hosted by the Pemi Valley Chamber of Commerce.  Enjoy dinner and live music by the Lakes Region Big Band, a 21-piece professional band offering a brew of high energy contemporary and big band jazz, fusion and rock.  Tickets are $40.

On Saturday afternoon, October 26 there will be a free Mystical Extravaganza with readings, healings, and wizardry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Waterville Valley’s Town Square.  Vendors include the Loon Witch who offers aura photography, tarot readings, rune readings, your name in runes, charms, crystal grids, divination tools and more, and Mo the Balloon Buffoon.

Jugtown Country Store in Waterville Valley Town Square will offer a Vampire Vineyards Wine Tasting from 3-5 p.m. for ages 21+ on Saturday afternoon.

Trick-or-Treat Waterville Valley style on Saturday, Oct. 26 beginning at 4 p.m.  Dress-up your little gremlins and meet at the Recreation Department where trick-or-treaters will be transported on the Schuss bus to candy stops throughout Waterville Valley. The cost is $5 per gremlin. Pre-registration is recommended by calling 603-236-4695.

On Saturday evening, experience the hypnotic spell of comic hypnotist Frank Santos, Jr. at the Legendary Brewgala.  Santos will offer an adults-only performance at Legends 1291 located in Waterville Valley’s Town Square from 8 p.m. to midnight.  During Santos’s show the audience becomes the stars as they believe they are singers, dancers and much, much more.  This is a 21+ event and tickets are $20.
