Waterville Valley Tennis Center’s 129th Season Underway

June 4, 2013

Tennis Center Director, Tom Gross, Jr., is back on Waterville Valley’s red clay courts for the summer season.

Gross fills us in on what’s happening this summer at the Tennis Center…

Coming off another Top ’25’ world ranking by Tennis Resorts  Online, along with a Top ‘5″ for Best Setting and Best Value, the 2013 tennis season opened earlier than ever in 2013.  With the nets up and ready for action during the first week of May, everyone got a head start leading up to the Memorial Day weekend, which is the true kick off to the summer tennis season.

There seemed to be a different vibe over Memorial Day with many of the members talking about the upcoming 14th annual Neil Roche ‘Back in the Game’ Mixed Doubles tournament on August 3 & 4, 2013.  I even heard some whispers on who would be playing with Mike Foster in this year’s event.  Always a favorite, Mike was noncommittal and even winked at a few of the members when pressed on who he would be playing with.  I’m not quite sure if it was actually a wink or a twitch left over from his brother Mark’s 40th birthday party celebration.  Stay tuned for more details.

The Tennis Center staff looks forward to seeing you all this summer.  Our pro shop manager will be Emily Ewing.  Emily has worked on the court maintenance crew the last three years and will be a great addition to the daily operation.  We have the very personable Sandy Giuliano returning for her Tuesday and Wednesday stints along with her superb green thumb gardening on the deck of the pro shop.  Patrick Supronowicz and Taylor Nadherny will be handling the junior clinics.  Jason Ewing and Will Benson will return to our court maintenance crew.

We also welcome back with great enthusiasm the very talented Tina and Gerard who will once again manage the popular round robins, which will start at the end of June.
