In the cool news department, it was just announced that Waterville Valley will host the USA Track & Field’s (USATF) 2019 Mountain Running Championships on Sunday, Sept. 29.
The Waterville Valley race course will be mapped out after the resort closes for skiing in the spring of 2019. The course will mimic the course that will be designed for the World Mountain Running Championships in Argentina. It will be a 10k two lap up/down style mountain race. Competition will be intense with a prize purse of $3,000, open and master’s awards, and the top four women and top four men earning automatic spots on the US Mountain Running Team.
While this is a brand new race, the team at acidotic RACING, LLC (AR) is no stranger to hosting competitive championships and challenging events for runners of all abilities. aR has hosted eight of the past ten USATF Mountain Running Championships. Last year’s championship at Loon Mountain featured equal participation by women and men, and a record 1,200 finishers.
