At the annual U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Congress held in Park City on May 17, 2013, Wes Preston, WVBBTS Freestyle Development Program Director, was one of five recipients of a USSA Gold Award for Development Coach of the Year Award. He was also named USSA Freestyle Domestic Coach of the Year.
Preston has been involved in freestyle skiing his entire life. His father is famed freestyle coach, Nick Preston, and Wes competed as a young athlete in moguls, aerials, and ballet. Upon retiring from competitive skiing, Wes coached for FLY Freestyle, Freestyle America, and the Lake Placid Olympic Jumping Complex Aerial Program, before taking a full-time position with WVBBTS in 2010.
Wes is currently the Program Director and Head Coach of the WVBBTS Development Program for athletes ages 8 – 14. The trampoline programs and technical ski progressions designed by Wes have produced a dominant WVBBTS Freestyle Team, accumulating overall and age-class podiums during the 2012-2013 ski season. In 2012 and again in 2013 the WVBBTS “B” team won the coveted 1st place team award at the East Coast Junior Freestyle Championships.
Wes’s professionalism and in-depth knowledge of freestyle skiing and acrobatics has been of tremendous benefit to the WVBBTS athletes.
Wes will be coaching this summer, along with other great BBTS staff, at Phil’s Hill Airbag Training Center in Waterville Valley. The training center is equipped with a brand new BagJump Airbag.
